Where is his survey?

Apr 8, 2022 | Latest News

I know I don’t have to tell you that the 2022 election cycle is crucial to the future of our gun rights here in Michigan.

With every seat in the Michigan Legislature up for election, as well as Governor Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel both having to face the voters this fall, it’s crucial for gun owners to find out where all of their candidates stand on the Second Amendment.

That’s why Great Lakes Gun Rights sends out a survey to every candidate running for these offices, both Republicans and Democrats, to find out where they really stand on key issues that you and I care about.

While the Primary election where Michiganders choose their nominees for Governor and State Legislature is still months away (August), the Republican nomination for Attorney General will be decided on April 23rd at the Michigan GOP State Convention.

There, Republican party delegates will vote to decide who will represent the Republican Party as the candidate to run against incumbent Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Now, it’s no secret.

Attorney General Nessel is an avowed enemy of our gun rights.

There isn’t a radical form of gun control she hasn’t endorsed.

California-style gun bans, Universal Gun Registration, due process-shredding “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation orders… You name it, she supports it.

In fact, during the lead up to the 2020 Presidential election, Nessel conspired with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (also facing the voters this fall) to cook up a polling place gun ban that was so outrageously illegal that, thankfully, the courts struck it down.

It is clear that this was nothing more than attempt to enact gun control by executive fiat while also attempting to discourage gun owners from showing up to vote.

Nessel’s lawlessness and her anti-gun animus must be exposed during this crucial election cycle.

But before that, it’s important for every candidate running to be the Republican nominee for Attorney General to go on record FULLY supporting our right to keep and bear arms.

The good news is, both former Speaker of the House Tom Leonard and current State Representative Ryan Berman promptly returned their Great Lakes Gun Rights Candidate Survey 100% in support of your right to keep and bear arms.

In returning their surveys, they indicated that as Attorney General, they would publicly support making Michigan a Constitutional Carry state, repealing pistol registration, and oppose radical forms of gun control, such as “Red Flag” laws.

They’ve both put pen to paper and pledged these things to gun owners in Michigan.

In the case of Tom Leonard, it’s not surprising for him to return his survey 100% pro-gun. He did it when he ran for Attorney General back in 2018 and he was also the first and only Michigan House Speaker to bring up Constitutional Carry for a vote on the House floor, where it passed.

Unfortunately, though, I have yet to receive a survey back from Republican Matt DePerno. I called his campaign on March 17th and sent him his survey that same day.

I’ve since followed up via email and phone call, with no response.

Look, I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that Matt DePerno is somehow anti-gun because he hasn’t returned his survey yet.

In fact, I heard him speak in favor of Constitutional Carry at a Macomb County Republican Party event earlier this year.

But it doesn’t change the fact that it is absolutely crucial for him to return his candidate survey, showing that he will stand with gun owners 100 percent of the time, not just when it is politically convenient.

So, could you give Matt DePerno’s campaign a call at 517-618-9655 and encourage him to return his Great Lakes Gun Rights Candidate Survey right away?

It’s possible that it just got lost in the shuffle of the busy campaign season. I completely understand that.

But it’s so important to the future of our gun rights that we get every candidate for Attorney General on record with their Great Lakes Gun Rights candidate survey, which is I am asking you to just take a moment to call his campaign.

The Republican State Convention is only weeks away, so it’s crucial for him to rush back his Great Lakes Gun Rights Candidate Survey as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for your activism. I’ll keep you posted if/when he returns his survey.

For Freedom,

Brenden Boudreau
