Gun control advances in Lansing, more anti-gun bills filed
Late last night the Michigan House of Representatives advanced House Bills 4138, 4142 and 4143 which expands Michigan’s draconian pistol purchase permit system to ALL firearms.
It passed on a party line vote, with swing district Democrats like Nate Shannon, Jim Haadsma and Jenn Hill jumping off the cliff with the gun grabbers in their caucus in voting for this assault on our Second Amendment rights.
Thankfully, there were no Republican defections, due much to your hard work in holding their feet to the fire.
Here’s the vote:
The House voted on these bills after yet another sham House Judiciary Committee hearing where Democrat Chair Kelly Breen only allowed ONE pro-gun witness to testify against the bills while gun control advocates were given free reign.
Today in the Senate there was another sham committee hearing where Democrat Chair Stephanie Chang yet again showed favoritism towards gun control proponents while cutting off pro-gun witnesses.
After nearly three hours, the committee voted Senate Bills 76 through Senate Bill 86 to the floor of the Senate on a party line vote.
They made a few amendments to these bills before passing them out, nothing really of note but for the mandatory storage bills (SB 79 and SB 80) now including language that will allow gun dealers to be sued frivolously by the gun ban lobby.
Not only that but Democrats filed a slew of new gun control bills, including:
House Bill 4211 (A 14-Day Waiting Period)
House Bill 4198 (Guts state preemption, allowing cities to create their own web of gun control laws across the state)
House Bill 4203/4204 (Making it illegal for adults 18-20 to purchase a firearm)
House Bill 4205/4206 (Making it illegal to carry an “assault weapon” within a 1,000ft of certain locations)
They’re even going after BB Guns with making it illegal for a kid to go outside with an air gun to shoot cans in his back yard (HB 4184).
This is an all-out emergency. Democrats are hellbent on eviscerating our right to keep and bear arms.
I still believe we have a chance to derail their agenda, but I can only do it with your help.
So far, we’ve dropped four rounds of postcards in key swing districts across the state urging Michiganders to call their legislators and tell them to oppose these bills.
Over the last three weeks, my team has delivered over 80,000 petitions to lawmakers opposing all of these various gun control proposals.
We’ve been running hard-hitting social media ads consistently for weeks and have worked with vendors to pump hundreds of phone calls into key offices as well.
Not only that, but I’ve deployed thousands of text messages and even just recently launched radio ads in a handful of Democrat swing districts.
This has been an expensive few weeks, but I know it is all worth it, even if we lose as we’re just tilling the fields to hold these gun-grabbing Democrats accountable either through recalls this year or in the 2024 elections.
